Kate Greenaway and Carnegie Awards
Both theThe Kate Greenaway Medal for distinguished illustration in a book for children, and the Carnegie Medal, awarded annually to the writer of an outstanding book for children, are featured on this website.
Costa Book Awards
Formerly know as The Whitbread, the Costa Book Award is one of the longest-running and most prestigious book awards in the UK. It aims to identify and celebrate some of the most enjoyable books published in the UK each year across a number of different genres.
Nestle Book Prize
Known formerly as the Smarties Prize, the Nestle Book Prize is designed to stimulate interest in children's literature and encourage children to enjoy reading.
Guardian Children's Fiction Award
This is awarded annually in September by The Guardian newspaper. The prize is given to an outstanding novel for children, published in the UK, written by a British or Commonwealth author.
The Children's Laureate
A Children's Laureate is appointed every two years to: 'an eminent writer or illustrator of children's books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field.' This award 'acknowledges the importance of exceptional children's authors in creating the readers of tomorrow.'' The Laureate is appointed for a two year term with the role of raising the profile of children's literature. For the period 2007-2009 the Children's Laureate is poet Michael Rosen.
The Booktrust Teenage Prize
The Booktrust Teenage Prize was launched in 2003 with the aim to recognise and celebrate contemporary teenage fiction.

The Hans Christian Andersen Awards
The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are the highest international recognition given to creators of children’s books. They are presented every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) to an author and an illustrator whose complete works have made an important and lasting contribution to children’s literature.
