| The Children's Laureate
A Children's Laureate is appointed every two years to: 'an eminent writer or illustrator of children's books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field.' This award 'acknowledges the importance of exceptional children's authors in creating the readers of tomorrow.'' The Laureate is appointed for a two year term with the role of raising the profile of children's literature. For the period 2007-2009 the Children's Laureate is poet Michael Rosen. |

The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are the highest international recognition given to creators of children’s books. They are presented every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) to an author and an illustrator whose complete works have made an important and lasting contribution to children’s literature. |
